Distance covered by particle in 8 sec is given by Area of These two Trapezum.

Area of first Trapezum = 1/2( 4 + 2 ) ×4

Area of 2nd Trapezum = 1/2( 4 + 2 )×2

Total Distance Covered by particle in 8sec is =

1/2( 4 + 2 )×4 + 1/2( 4 + 2 ) × 2

= 12 + 6

= 18m

Note:-

Area of Trapezum = 1/2( Sum of two parallel sides ) × height of altitude.
