Answer:

You told that those numbers are 20 and 11 but by adding those numbers gives 31 only not 33 (as per question)

Step-by-step explanation:

let those two numbers are x and y

sum gives 33

x + y = 33        ............ (1)

case 1 :

let x is larger, larger is tripled means 3x

y is smaller, smaller is doubled which means 2y

then these two difference gives 38

3x - 2y = 38     ............ (2)

by solving these two equations

from (1)

y = 33 - x

by substituting it in (2)

3x - 2(33-x) = 38

3x - 66 + 2x = 38

5x = 38 + 66

5x = 104

x = 20.8

y = 33-20.8 = 12.2

case 2 :

x is smaller and y is larger then

3y - 2x = 38      ............... (3)

by solving 1 and 3

from (1)

y = 33 - x

by substituting it in (2)

3(33-x) - 2x = 38

99 - 3x - 2x = 38

61 = 5x

x = 12.5

y = 20.5
