Draw the diagram.

AB = AC = 13 cm

Use Pythagoras theorem to find AD.  In ΔABD,
  AD² = AB² - BD²      =>   AD = 5 cm

ΔABD and Δ ACE are similar as  all the angles are same.. (AAA principle).
as   ∠D = ∠E = 90°
as  ∠DAB = ∠EAC  = vertical angles at A
and hence, ∠DBA = ∠ACE   (
        and also   AD ||AC   and  AB || AE.)

Ratios of sides =>   AC / AB  = AE / AD = CE / BD
=> 13/13 = 5/AD = CE/12

so  AD = 5 cm    and   CE = 12 cm.

That is very simple.
