A  acid is defined as a compound that gives hydronium ions to another compound—for example, hydrochloric acid gives H+ ions to compounds it reacts with.  bases are compounds that can accept hydronium ions—when ammonia gets a hydronium ion from HCl, it forms the ammonium ion.

HCL

KOH

strong acids

and

CH3COOH

NH4OK

strong base

gurdeenkaur31: Egg shell is made of calcium carbonate. We know that when calcium carbonate reacts with nitric acid, it gives carbon dioxide, calcium nitrate and water. Same reaction happens when nitric acid is poured over egg shell.
gurdeenkaur31: CaCO3 + 2HNO3(a) = Ca(NO3)2 + CO2(g) + H2O(l)

Arrhenius definition of Acid and bases is::
ACID --Those substances which when dissolve in aqueous release H + ions...
BASES --- those substances which when dissolve in aqueous release OH-ions

Strong Acid - HCL
Strong bases - KOH

Nitric acid with egg shell

HNO3 + CaCO3 ---- Ca(NO3)2 + CO2 + H2
