Answer:

(a) Electronic Configuration of Element B = 2,8,7. Hence this element has the atomic number 17, and is Chlorine.

(b) Element B is a highly electronegative substance, and hence, is a Non Metal (no. of valence electrons is >3)

(c) Elements B and C form a pair of isotopes, as their atomic number is same (17).

(d) Elements A and D form a pair of isobars, as their atomic mass is same (40amu)

(e) A cation is a positively charged ion, ie: it obtains a positive charge during electron transfer. We know that metals produce positively charged ions while forming bonds, therefore all metallic elements will form cations. Here element A (Pottasium) forms a cation as it's a metal. Elements B and C (Both isotopes of Chlorine) will form anions, as they are non metals. The rest are innert gases, and hence the won't form ions.

(f) Isotope of Cobalt is used in radiotherapy, while isotope of iodine is used to monitor thyroid gland functioning.
