then, a/x+y=1/5

=> 5a=x=y - (1)

a/x-y=1/7

=> 7a=x-y -(2)

by adding (1) and (2)

7a=x-y

5a=x+y

=>12a=2x

=> 6a=x

=> 6xy=x ( because a=xy )

=> 6y=1

=> y=1/6

=> 7xy=x-y

=> 7x/6=x-1/6

=> 7x/6=(6x-1)/6

=> 7x= 6x-1

=> 7x-6x = -1

=> x= -1
