we find oil mostly in the middle east is because millions of years ago these areas used to be tropical or semi-tropical, meaning that there was a lot of organic matter that was buried there. This organic matter decomposes and becomes oil, coal, and gas. It is trapped mostly by folds in layers of impermeable bedrock. When geologists look for new places to drill for oil they usually start where they think there are folds, then there are a series of tests they can do to see if oil might be there before they spend the money to drill.

It is because...

Everyone is right about oil refineries being near the coast for easy access of oil tankers but the reason we find oil mostly in the middle east is because millions of years ago these areas used to be tropical or semi-tropical, meaning that there was a lot of organic matter that was buried there. This organic matter decomposes and becomes oil, coal, and gas. It is trapped mostly by folds in layers of impermeable bedrock.
