 Given : sin^2 \frac{\pi}{6} + cos^2 \frac{\pi}{3} - tan^2 \frac{\pi}{4}

We know that  \pi = 180

Now,

= > sin^2 (30) + cos^2(60) - tan^2 (45)

= > sin(30)^2 + cos(60)^2 - tan(45)^2

= > (1/2)^2 + (1/2)^2 - 1

= > (1/4) + (1/4) - 1

= > (2/4) - 1

= > (1/2) - 1

= -1/2.

Hope this helps!
