(a) "The sex of the children is determined by what they inherit from their father and not their mother. This statement is completely justified and can be proved as follows: A male has XY chromosomes and a female has XX chromosomes

1. If a sperm carrying X chromosome from male gets combined with the X chromosome from female, then the combination will be XX and child will be a baby girl.

2. If a sperm carrying Y chromosome from male gets combined with the X chromosome from female, then the combination will be XY, and the child will be a baby boy.

(b) An example where environmental factor like temperature determined the sex of the offspring is in case of reptiles, the temperature at which the fertilized egg is increased before hatching of the egg helps in determination of the sex of the offspring such as case of a turtle, the high incubation temperature of the egg proves that the offspring is a female.

during fertilization the mother gives only X chromosome to the next generation while the father gives X as well as y chromosome to the next generation .if Y chromosome comes from the father then the child will be a boy and if X chromosome comes from the father then the child will be a girl.
