We know that,

⇒opposite sides of parallelogram are parallel

⇒transversal property

⇒also exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of non adjacent angles of a triangle

Now in fig HOPE is the parallelogram

adjacent angle of a parallelogram are same

∴∠PEH = ∠HOP   And   ∠EHO = ∠OPE

side EP ║ side HO and HP is the transversal

∴∠EHP ≅ ∠HPO = 40°        

y = ∠HPO = 40°            

y = 40°          

Now consider ΔHOP and their exterior ∠O

∴∠O = ∠PHO + ∠HPO

 70° =    z    +     40°      

 z = ∠PHO = 70°-40° = 30°

 z = 30°

Now in parallelogram HOPE

∠EHO = ∠OPE = 40° + 30° = 70°

∠EHO = ∠OPE = 70°

Also sum of all angles of parallelogram is 180°

∠HOP + ∠OPE + ∠PEH + ∠EHO = 360°

∠HOP + 70° + ∠HOP + 70° = 360°

∠HOP + 140° = 360°

∠HOP = 360° - 140° = 220°

2∠HOP = 220°

∠HOP = 220°/2

∠HOP = 110°

∴∠HOP = ∠PEH = 110°  

x = ∠PEH = 110°

x = 110°
