weight of 8kg block = 80N
weight of 12kg block =120 N
net force=120N-80N in the -Y direction...=40N...=m(total Mass) X a(net acceleration)...therefore net acceleration =net force/total mass=40N/8kg+12kg=40N/20kg=2m/s^2
