There is a higher concentration of minerals inside a root cell than in soil surrounding plant. This creates a root pressure, which forces water up, out of the root through the xylem vessels.
As more water and minerals are pulled into root from the soil, more water is sent up which causes guttation, which is a secretion seen as droplets coming out of the pores of a plant.
