In blast furnace chemical reaction takes place
like silica is converted into silicon.
fe3o4 =Fe

Hello friend..!!
The process of extraction of iron from the hematite ore is carried out in the blast furnace.
• three steps are involved :
1) concentration of the ore
2)calcination of the ore
3)reduction of ore.
COCENTRATION OF ORE :
•the ore is purified by removing the impurities like soil.this process may involve chrushingand washing of ore.
CALACITNATION OF ORE :
The ore that had been concentrated is now heated in the presence of air, this helps in the removal of moisture content And imupurities of sulphur. The ferrous oxide is also oxidised into ferric oxide.
REDUCTION OF THE ORE :
• this process is taken place in the BLAST FURNACE
1) hot air is pumped into the furnace through the bottom ,the carbon reacts with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide
2c + O2 -------> 2CO2
2) after the formation of carbon dioxide excess amount of carbon Reacts with it to form carbon monoxide ( main reducing reagent in the furnace)
CO2 + C -----> CO + heat
3)the carbon monoxide that is present in the blast furnace now reacts with the hematite ore ,now due to the reduction process the iron oxides get converted to iron atom.
Fe2O3 + 3CO ----> 2Fe + 3CO2.
4)when the extraction of iron taking place, the limestone flux reacts with the impurities in the one and melts them to form ,that effectively prevents the impurities from affecting the reduction of the iron ore.
CaCO3 ------>CaO + CO2
CaO + SiO2----->CaSiO3 .

Picture that I had attached gives diagrammatic Representation.

Hope it is useful....!!
