- The british annexed various parts of India through different policies like Doctrine of Lapse, Subsidiary alliance etc.

- The British introduced many social reforms like abolition of child marriage and sati, promoted widow remarriage and english education in schools.
⚛ Economic cause ⚛
- The british exploited peasants and zamindars by increasing tax rate and also destroying the traditional industries.
⚛ Religious cause ⚛
- The christian missionaries tried to convert the Indian people to christianity. They also forced the soldiers for oversea service
⚛ Immediate cause ⚛
- The usage of new enfield rifle and cartridge which were covered with the fat of cows and pigs were the immediate cause of revolt. The Indian soldiers were discriminated and were not given proper salary and promotions.
