What questions does a reporter ask a serial killer during an interview?

If they felt or feel remorse for the victims and their families?

Were they abused as a child?

What about the victims made them stand out from every other person that they could have chosen?

Looking back and knowing how it ends. Would they do it again?

During the actual moments when they murdered their victims…… What was going through their mind?

Do you have anything to say to the victims loved ones?

Did they find any pleasure in or during the murders?

Were they sexually abused as a child?

Did their need to kill people fitting the victim profile somehow result from an experience or relate to a specific person from their past?

I trained to be a crime researcher and profiler, not a journalist but I suspect some of the questions might overlap.

However, often just letting the serial killer talk about themselves is very helpful. You learn a great deal.

Questions to ask would be:

1) First memory?

2) Tell me about your parents?

3) What was your memory after your first kill?

4) Did you have pets as a child?

5) Did you feel a connection to your parents or siblings?

6) What is your earliest school memory?

7) Did you mistreat other children or animals when you were a child?

8) What was your earliest sexual experience?

9) When did you first realize you were different?

10) Did you ever abuse alcohol or drugs?

11) What steps did you take to hide your murders?

12) Do you ever feel remorse? If they say yes, ask them to describe it (they cannot really do this)

13) Were you content in your activities or nervous?

14) Did you read books on other serial killers while you were killing?

15) How did you choose a victim?

16) Do you have a concept of religion or follow a faith (this is really important only if the bring religion into it). Explain your faith to me.

17) Describe yourself to me?
