take LCM

{x^2 + (x+1)^2 } / x(x+1) = 25/12

(x^2 + x^2 + 1 + 2x) / x(x+1) = 25/12

(2x^2 + 2x + 1) / (x^2 + x) = 25/12

by cross multiplication

24x^2 + 24x + 12 = 25x^2 + 25x

24x^2 - 25x^2 + 24x - 25x + 12 = 0

-x^2 - x + 12 = 0

multiply equation by (-1)

x^2 + x - 12 = 0

now, split the middle term

x^2 + (4x - 3x) - 12 = 0

x^2 + 4x - 3x - 12 = 0

x(x+4) -3(x+4) = 0

(x-3)(x+4) = 0

x = 3 or -4
