if one of the slit is closed there will be no interference pattern on the screen as the main criterion for the formation of interference pattern is superposition of to or more waves. On closing one slit only one wave travels..so all you would observe is general illumination with Intensity= I/2
this is bcoz, at the central Maxima the intensity observed is more as both the superposed waves meet at same phase, so oscillate with higher amplitude and hence higher intensity
