By (1) and (2) we get,

AB= AP+PR_________(4)

also AC= AQ+CQ_____(5)

and CQ=QR _________(6)

By (5) and (6) we get.

AC= AQ+QR_________(7)

NOW,
adding equation (4) and (7)
we get ,

AB + AC=AQ+QR+AP+PR
AB+AC= AQ+AP+(QR+PR)
AB+AC=AQ+AP+PQ
