A bag contains coins of denomination of 50 paise and five rupees. The total value of these coins is Rs. 300. If the total number of coins in the bag is 150, find the number of coins of each type.
Answer: 100 coins each of 50 paisa
50 coins each of rupees 5
Solution: Let number of 50 paisa coins be x coins
Therefore, value of 50 paisa coins = Rupees 0.5x
Number of Rupees 5 coins = 150 - x coins
Therefore, value of Rupees 5 coins = Rupees 5( 150 - x )
= Rupees 750 - 5 x
by the problem,
0.5x +( 750 - 5 x) = 300
or, - 4.5 x = - 450
or, x = 4500/45
or, x = 100
Therefore, Number of Rupees 5 coins = 150 - x coins
= 150 - 100 coins
= 50 coins
