Given: x = 1 -  \sqrt{2}

= \ \textgreater \   \frac{1}{x} =  \frac{1}{1 -  \sqrt{2} } *  \frac{1 +  \sqrt{2} }{1 +  \sqrt{2}  }

= \ \textgreater \   \frac{1 +  \sqrt{2} }{1^2 - ( \sqrt{2})^2 }

= \ \textgreater \   \frac{1 +  \sqrt{2} }{1 - 2}

= \ \textgreater \   \frac{1 +  \sqrt{2} }{-1}

= \ \textgreater \   \sqrt{2} - 1

Now,

= \ \textgreater \  x -  \frac{1}{x}

= \ \textgreater \  (1 -  \sqrt{2} ) - ( \sqrt{2} - 1)

= \ \textgreater \  1 -  \sqrt{2} -  \sqrt{2}  + 1

= \ \textgreater \  2

Therefore:

= > (x - 1/x)^3 = (2)^3

                      = 8.

Hope this helps!
