Question :

A bus turns a slippery road having coefficient of friction of 0.5 with a speed of 10 m/s. The minimum radius of the arc in which bus turns is

Given :

Coefficient of friction = 0.5

Velocity of the bus = 10 m/s

To Find :

Radius of the circular path.

Solution :

❖ A vehicle taking a circular turn on a level road. If μ is the coefficient of friction between tyres and road, then the maximum velocity with which the vehicle can safely take a circular turn at radius r is given by

  • v² = μ r g

By substituting the given values;

➙ 10² = 0.5 × r × 10

➙ 100 = 5 × r

➙ r = 100/5

r = 20 m

Formula :- v² = μrg

→ 0.5 × r × 10 = 10²

→ 5 × r = 100

→ 100/5 = r

→ 20 m = r Ans.
