(a, 0),(0,b) and( 1,1) are given coordinates

as they are collinear therefore the area of triangle formed by these coordinates is zero

Now,

ar∆ =1/2[ x1( y2 -y3) + x2 (y3 -y1) + x3(y1 -y2)]

0 =1/2[a(b -1) +0 +1(0 -b) ]

0 =1/2(ab -a -b )

0 =ab -a -b

a+b =ab ___________( 1 )

Now,

LHS

1/a +1/b

by taking LCM

=a+b/ab

=ab/ab (from eq 1 )

=1

=RHS

therefore LHS =RHS

HENCE PROVED
