Here, AB is the flag staff, C is the end point of the shadow when the angle of elevation is 60°, and θis the angle at which we need to find.

Let AB = x, BC = y

By given condition, BD = 3y

In right ΔABC, AB BC = tan 60 ⁰ x y = 3 x = √3 y In right ΔABD, AB BD = tan θ x 3y = tan θ 3 y 3y = tan θ 1 3 = tan θ θ = 30°   [tan 30° = 1 3 ] Thus, the required angle is 30°.
