Plz tell in what situation we apply total surface , lateral surface area and curved surface area

apply total surface area when we have to find the area of the each and every side of the given polygon. for example you are asked to find the area of a wooden box given all the Length breadth and height then you will apply total surface area formula.
we apply lateral surface area when we have to find the total surface area of a polygon except the area of the bottom and top side. for example find the area of whitewash in a room and Length breadth and height are given then you will find lateral surface area. but be careful sometime it is also mentioned that you have to include the area of the ceiling to then you have to first find lateral surface area then you have to add the area of ceiling separately.
it is used in curved polygon like circle cylinder cone etc. in this you have to find the area of the surface that is curved. suppose hemisphere is given to you and you have asked that find the area to be painted from outside then you have to find G chord surface area of the hemisphere.
remember that in circles curved surface area and total surface area are same.
