2.The temperature of any substance remain constant during the change of state because the heat energy supplied is used up in changing the state of matter and also this heat is used for breaking of several bonds or attractive forces. This heat, which does not raise the temperature of the body, is called Laten heat.
3.In an earthen pot, water gets evaporated quickly through the pores. Cooling is caused by evaporation. Some heat energy is utilised during the process of evaporation. Since this energy is taken from the water itself, it leads to a lowering of temperature in the remaining amount of water
5.a) Naphthalene balls undergo sublimation due to which it converts directly into vapours and disappear into air without leaving any solid.
(b) The particles of perfume diffuse rapidly into the air and its smell can be felt while sitting several metres away
7.A desert cooler cools better on a hot dry day because on a hot dryday temperature is high and humidity is less which helps in betterevaporation. Due to the higher rate of evaporation it gives better coolingeffect.
8.a.The force of attraction between particles of gas is negligible. Because of this, particles of gas move in all directions. Thus, a gas fills the vessel completely in which it is kept.
B.Because of negligible force of attraction between particles of gas, the particles of gas have the highest kinetic energy. These properties enable the particles of gas to move in all directions and hit the walls of container from all sides. Because of this a gas exerts pressure on the walls of the container in which it is kept.
C.A wooden table has fixed shape and fixed volume, which are the main characteristics of solid. Thus a wooden table should be called a solid.
