Question :

The conductivity of 0.20M solution of KCl at 298K is 0.0248 S cm‾¹. Calculate its molar conductivity .

Answer :

★ The inverse of resistivity (ρ) is called conductivity or specific conductance (k)

  • SI unit : S m‾¹

ATQ, k = 0.0248 S cm‾¹

k = 0.000248 S m‾¹

Molar conductivity (λm) is the the conductance of a solution containing 1 mole of the electrolyte.

  • λm = k × 1000/Molarity

⭆ λm = k × 1000/M

⭆ λm = 0.000248 × 1000/0.20

⭆ λm = 0.248/0.20

λm = 1.24 S m²/mol

Cheers!
