Plzz help guys Equal lengths of magnesium ribbon are taken in two test tubes. To the first test tube dilute HCL is added and to the second test tube dilute acetic acid is added. Write the reaction and explain what happens.

Mg+ HCl----> MgCl2+ H2

Over here as Magnesium is higher up on the reactivity series, it displaces Hydrogen and forms MgCl2, Hydrogen gas is also evolved.

This is a single displacement reaction.

In second test tube, Magnesium reacts with Acetic acid and forms Magnesium acetate. Hydrogen gas is also evolved

Mg + 2 CH3COOH ---->  Mg(CH3COO)2 + H2
