We have ,

(x + y) =  \frac{7}{2}

xy =  \frac{5}{2}
then,
Using Identity ,
 {(a + b)}^{2}  =  {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}  + 2ab
( { \frac{7}{2} })^{2} =  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  + 2 \times \frac{5}{2}

 {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  =  \frac{49}{4}  - 5
 {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  =  \frac{29}{4}
then using other identity of negation square,
 {(x - y)}^{2}  =  \frac{29}{4}  - 5
 {(x - y)}^{2}  =  \frac{29 - 20}{4}
 {(x - y)}^{2}  =  \frac{9}{4}
(x - y) =  \frac{3}{2}
Using
( {x}^{2}  -  {y}^{2} ) = (x + y)( x  - y)
( {x}^{2}  -  {y}^{2} ) = ( \frac{7}{2})( \frac{3}{2}  )
( {x}^{2}  -  {y}^{2} ) =  \frac{21}{4}
Hence you got ur answers.
