Let the cost of each book be x .

Let the number of books be n .

So x n = 60

= x = 60/n .

If cost is decreased by 1 :

x becomes x - 1

5 more books means n + 5

( x - 1 )( n + 5 ) = 60

Put x = 60/n

= ( 60/n - 1 )( n + 5 ) = 60

= 60 + 300/n - n - 5 = 60

= 300/n - n = 5

= 300 - n² = 5 n

= n² + 5 n - 300 n = 0

= n² + 20 n - 15 n - 300 n = 0

= n ( n + 20 ) - 15 ( n + 20 ) = 0

n = 15 , - 20

n cannot be -ve .

n = 15

x = 60/15

= x = 4

Hence number of books is 15 .

Cost of each book is 4.
