Let's take present age of her daughter and mother
=x and y. Five years hence daughters age becomes
(x+5) years and mother's age becomes (y+5) years. it is given that 5 years hence y+5=3(x+5) => y+5 =3x+15 => y-3x =10..(1).Five years ago similarly age of daughter=(x-5) and ageof mother=(y-5). it is given 5 years ago y-5=7(x-5) =>y-5=7x-35=> y-7 x=-30...(2)
Now subtract (2) from(1) then we get =>4x=40=>x=10 then substitute x=10 in equation(1) we get y-3(10)=10=>y=30+10= 40 . So the present ages of mother and her daughter are 40 and 10 respectively. Hope it helps you...
