              Nuclear Family Advantages and Disadvantages

Joint family is a blessing for children. The grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins provide a very healthy environment for the all-round growth and development of children. They never leave the children alone and unprotected. The negative influences in the current times have become quite strong; owing to the IT revolution, children are prone to be negatively influenced. In the presence of elderly members in joint families, the children remain protected from these influences.

In a nuclear family, the children may feel neglected as at times the children don’t get enough time and attention from their parents. In case both the parents are working, the consequences can be very detrimental. Alone at home their impressionable minds are prone to negative and evil influences. Children may go astray. The absence of any elderly member may further tempt to evil things such as smoking, drinking, drug addiction, etc.

For example I grew up in a joint family and always under the care and wath of my grandparents, uncles, and aunts. They always kept an eye on me. If I watched too much of TV, they advised me it was sheer wastage of time. They also helped me in my studies, dilemmas, and conflicts. I feel if I would be living in a nuclear family, I would definitely be tempted to unwholesome activities.

However, in a joint family in the presence of so many people, a growing child is perfectly safe. Besides, he gets ample opportunity to develop so many lingual and social skills while interacting with his grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. He grows under their secure warmth, love and protection.

In conclusion it can be said that joint family system has more advantages than the nuclear families.

In this modern era, the concept of Nuclear families has become more popular. A nuclear family is a group in which parents and their children live together and it is also known as an immediate family. Nowadays, the nuclear family becomes a trend, and it is different from an extended family system (joint family).

Many people believe that a nuclear family is a better arraignment than an extended family. However, here I am going to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of a nuclear family so that one can easily understand whether it is helpful or not.

Advantages:-

  • The biggest advantage that a nuclear family enjoys is an independent entity which is totally free from the control of the senior members.
  • In the nuclear family, kids are more intimate with their parents and can easily discuss their problems with them.
  • People can take their decision freely in a nuclear family and can make new rules and regulations for their small families.
  • Nuclear families have sufficient financial stability to lead a luxury life with their children.
  • In a nuclear family, women have lots of time in their hands to look after their children also they can manage everything according to their wishes.

Disadvantages:-

  • In a nuclear family, you can’t get helping hand immediately during your emergency.
  • Children can’t get the opportunity to grow with their grandparents as well as other relatives and for this reason, they will not understand the culture and values of the family.
  • There is no helping hand in a nuclear family so women have to play multiple roles like- cooking, babysitter and so on, and that’s why she hardly gets time to care herself or manage her relationship with others.
  • In a nuclear family husband and wife mostly going to a job and their children are neglected by them which makes their children emotionally insecure.
  • When people get free they will begin to feel lonely. Especially, housewives may feel alone when they have no one to talk.

Therefore, it is tough to decide whether the nuclear family is beneficial for you or not. So it is necessary for both partners to sit and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a nuclear family and then decide what is better for them.

Now the nuclear family is considered as an ideal family structure, so you can choose it, no matter whether it is a or an owning one. But it is essential to design your home in a way so that it meets all your requirements and convergence. Always choose the house that fulfills your family needs.
