Hey!! that's a nice question

------

We are given that XY || AC

Therefore... Ang BXY = Ang A

also, Ang BYX = Ang C ( since they are corresponding)

now, ar(ABC) / ar(XBY) = [AB/XB]^2. ..... (1)

also, ar ABC = 2 (AR XBY)

SO, ar(ABC) / ar(XBY) = 2 / 1. ...... (2)

from (1) nd (2)

[AB/XB]^2 = 2 / 1

=> AB / XB = root 2 / 1

XB / AB = 1 / root 2

1 - XB / AB = 1- 1 / root 2

AB - XB / AB is equal to root 2 - 1 / root 2

!! Thus AX / AB = 2 - ROOT 2 / 2

hope this helps
