Explanation:

clearly 42 =  radius of semicircle (left) + square sidelength + radius of semicirle ( right )

now in these question it is assumed that each semicircle has equal radius

so ,

side of square = diameter of top semicirle = diameter of any semicircle

so

r + 2r + r =42

so r = 10.5

now you got r  so d = 21cm

so are of square = 441 cm^2

area of remaining portion = 4* area of 1 semicircle

4 * (pi * 10.5^2 )/2 = 693

total answer  441 + 693 =    1134
