POEM-LINES WRITTEN IN EARLY SPRING
I heard a thousand blended notes,
While in a grove I sate reclined,
In that sweet mood when pleasant thoughts
Bring sad thoughts to the mind.

To her fair works did Nature link
The human soul that through me ran;
And much it grieved my heart to think
What man has made of man.

Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,
The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;
And ’tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.

The birds around me hopped and played,
Their thoughts I cannot measure:—
But the least motion which they made
It seemed a thrill of pleasure.

The budding twigs spread out their fan,
To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there.

If this belief from heaven be sent,
If such be Nature’s holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What man has made of man?

Hey\:!!..

The answer goes here....

Question - Do you think the poet has reason to lament ? Why ?

Answer - Yes, according to me the poet has reason to lament. This is because of the suffering faced by humanity and surrounding. Even though the nature is so well made yet we humans don't take care of it. The proper thing which needs to be taken care are not given importance. They are considered as not so valuable but according to a poet a nature is a beautiful arrangements of feelings and emotions which gives a reason to lament.

Question - How does the poet describe the mood of the birds ?

Answer - The poet describes the mood of the birds as joyful which made him feel pleasure.  The birds played and hopped but it was hard for poet to measure their thoughts.  But at last the motion was a thing which was giving a thrilling pleasure.

Question - What does the poet say about the budding twigs ?

Answer - The poet finds a beauty in everything he sees. For example, the budding twigs. He feels pleasure when he sees the twigs spreading the fans to catch the breezy air. Poet has nothing to do except of watching the beauty of nature.

1) QUESTION: DO YOU THINK THE POET HAS REASON TO LAMENT? WHY?

Answer: Yes, the poet has a reason to lament. When he thinks about man’s evil deeds directed against other men and women, he laments. The poet finds everything in nature so jocund and helpful; but when he thinks about man’s greed, hatred, jealousy, evil designs he feels sad and depressed.

2) HOW DOES THE POET DESCRIBE THE MOOD OF THE BIRDS?

Answer: The birds were very happy as they were playing and hopping playfully and ecstatically. Though the poet could not read their thoughts; but their body language suggested they were highly elated.

3) WHAT DOES THE POET SAY ABOUT THE BUDDING TWIGS?

Answer: The budding twigs were also in a loving and ecstatic mood. They were spreading their arms to catch and hug the passing breeze.
