Answer:
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the department’s Air, Air Everywhere poetry contest. DNR is offering Wisconsin’s parents and teachers a virtual learning opportunity. Parents can lead their child through an activity (or more than one!) from the Air, Air Everywhere Teacher's Activity guide [PDF]. The guide aims to teach third, fourth and fifth grade students about air quality and the importance of clean air.
Jake LaFleur, DNR's first ever Air, Air Everywhere poetry contest winner, writes, "Winning the contest ten years ago served as a catalyst to the confidence and drive that I now possess as a twenty-one-year-old college student, all the while helping me to realize that I could be that change in the world regarding aspects that are bigger than myself."
LaFleur is encouraging virtual participation in the contest this year and added, “Who knows, it may inspire a new generation of individuals to achieve their dreams, all the while allowing for them to learn more about the world in which they live, similar to what it did for me.” Read more [PDF] about what the contest meant to Jake.
Teachers and parents can submit original poems and riddles created by your student(s) to Wisconsin DNR. The winning poem (and two runners-up) will have their work featured below. The winner will receive an award certificate AND a special prize. This year’s winner will also be featured in the June addition of the department’s Wisconsin Natural Resources magazine!
