Don’t give the devil any dues With what God has given you Speak your words in quiet truth They are life its fruit. Consider pride in its callousness It is the path of the careless Consider also the poor The weak and the hungry They are your life’s defense. Be diligent in all your endeavors While your hands have strength Give and it shall be given you Remember you are a gift There is only one unique you So therefore celebrate you And in all humility Consider what life throws you Remember there is wrath in speech And also wrath in quiet peace Be not restless with stratagems And all the plans of darkness There is a human spirit in you Born of love and given to love Therefore give love And edge away the darkness Consider the miracle of life Once taken there can be no return Therefore nurture and respect life Do not delay kindness For kindness delayed is no kindness at all But to whom you will, give freely. In my short life I have seen a few things A man with everything, but gave little or nothing A man with little or nothing, and he too gave little or nothing And a man who had everything, he gave everything Also a man who had little or nothing, and he too gave everything Therefore I considered this For all humanity there is but one end We are born squealing for our mother’s breast Born naked and with nothing And of all the labor of our hands When we die we carry nothing Wealth is of no benefit to the dead Yet it is the enterprise of the living A life missed, in pursuit of wealth. Consider all the flora and fauna They have no care for clothing And all the worries of man They serve their stint by instinct Looking up-to man for protection and nurture I considered this and saw all of life’s vanity An eland born and grown to full glory And soon brought to adversity A life quashed by the grip of an adversary A lion a tiger or a cheetah And I became wearied Questions that science could not answer The why, the why of life.
