Festivals are supposed to bring us a lot of joy and happiness but they also harm the environment a lot. The following are some points regarding the damage or harm they cause to the environment:-
+ Festivals like Diwali have a diverse effect on the environment. During this festival; noise, air and sound pollution is at it's peak. Bursting crackers during any festival causes a lot of this type of pollution. Bursting crackers also has a major effect on animals as well.
+ During Ganesh Chathurthi idols are immersed in water bodies. This is the main cause of water pollution during this festival. The idols are made using a lot of chemicals and colours which harm the biodiversity of the water bodies and even kill many fishes and aquatic life.
+ During festivals there are usually a lot of processions where loud speakers are used. They increase the noise pollution and this is very harmful for the environment. Noise levels go higher than the usual level causing many disruptions.
I HAVE TRIED TO SUMMARIZE IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN THESE POINTS.
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU......

Answer:
23,500 tonnes of waste are generated every year at festivals, 68% of which goes directly into landfill. Much of this is comprised of single-use plastics (such as bottles, straws, food trays and cable ties), as well as microplastic pollution in the form of glitter and toiletries.
