Point of intersection of incident ray is called point of incidence.

Point of incidence:

The point of incidence is the point at which the incident ray strikes the surface or the object.

Incident ray, reflected ray and normal:

  • The ray of light which emerges from a light source and is directed towards the surface of an object is called the incident ray. The ray of light which emerges from the surface of the object after reflection is called as reflected ray.
  • The common line between the incident ray and the reflected ray is called as the 'normal'.
  • The angle which is formed in between the incident ray and the normal is referred to angle of incidence. The angle created by the reflected ray and the normal line is called as the angle of reflection.
  • There is also another associated ray, which is called the emergent ray, this is the ray of light which emerges followed by reflection/refraction/dispersion.
