Answer:

JICA co-hosted an open seminar, entitled “Effort and Progress Toward Women’s Education and Empowerment in Afghanistan and Pakistan“ with the Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO at JICA headquarters in Tokyo on Dec. 8, 2013.In such Southern Asian countries as Pakistan and Afghanistan, educational opportunities for women are limited, depending on the country. JICA has long been working on strengthening education for girls through nonformal education (*1) in Pakistan and through literacy education in Afghanistan.UNESCO, on the other hand, has also been administering The Malala Fund, launched in 2013 with contributions from the U.N., actress Angelina Jolie and others. The open seminar was held in order to widely showcase the present situation of girls’ and women’s education in both countries to society and help people think together about what future support should involve.

Education changed women's role in society dramatically. Occupations were limited but women began to seep into the male-dominated world. After experiencing higher learning, aspirations changed and gradually society's expectations had to change as well. Education bred confidence and empowerment.
