Point P (3. b) divides the line segment AB joining the points A(1, 2) and B(4, 5) in the ratio 2:1 from the side of A. Find the value of b.​

P(3,b) divides the line segment AB in ratio 2:1 ,A(1,2) and B(4,5).

Apply section formula => P(x,y) divides the segment with endpoints A(a,b)and B(c,d) in ratio m:n ,then P=((c*m+a*n)/(m+n) , (d*m+b*n)/(m+n) )

P (3,b) = (4*2+1*1/2+1 , 5*2+2*1/2+1) = (9/3, 12/3) =(3,4)

Thus b=4 .
