If we have a graph paper and we make the following given points of A and B on the graph paper, we will have our answer as to which axis is AB parallel to.

Point A (8,4) lies on the upper right quarter of the graph. A (8,4) point 8 here is of x-axis and 4 is of y-axis on the upper side. 

Point B (-2,4) lies on the upper left quarter of the graph. B (-2,4) point -2 here is of x-axis on the left side and 4 is of y-axis on the upper side.

Both A and B have a common point of 4 of y-axis which indicates it will be a straight line, hence parallel to the x-axis.
