Given:

Pole strength of the horse shoe magnet = 2A

Difference between the poles of the horse shoe magnet = 4 cm

To find:

Magnetic induction at the mid point between the poles.

Solution:

  • Let Bn denotes the magnitude of the magnetic field due to N-pole and Bs denotes the magnitude of the magnetic field due to S-pole.
  • Thus, at the mid point (O) magnetic field will be (Bnet) = Bn + Bs
  • Also, Bn = Bs = μ₀m / 4πr²

                               = (4π x 10⁻⁷ x 2) / 4π (0.04 / 2)²

                               = 5 x 10⁻⁴

  • And Bnet = 2x(5 x 10⁻⁴) = 10 x 10⁻⁴
  • The magnetic induction at the midpoint between the pole will be 10 x 10⁻⁴.
