Polishing of pulses is used to remove the dullness of the pulse and bring some sheen to it to make it more attractive. People also prefer clean and shinier ones to dull pulses. Polished pulses are also cheaper than unpolished ones. But the polishing process removes the outer husk which is a natural fiber and useful and important for the body. Also some substances like oil, color and powders are used for polishing which may be harmful to us. The pulses may also lose other nutrients in the process.
