Dear Student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

It is true that parties are partial, partisan and lead to partitions. But in democracies their existence have become omnipresent. They do have many functions to perform though they are said to divide people on party lines. Without their existence, democracy is meaningless.

They contest elections, put forward various policies and programmes and the voters choose from them. They play a decisive role in law making. They form and run governments and the losing parties form opposition. They shape public opinion and provide access to government machinery and welfare programmes implemented by the government.

After performing so many functions, we cannot say that parties only divide people and do nothing. Their importance lies in their functions.
