Pollen kit material is secreted by which layer?
Answers
By Tapetum layer.
Tapetum layer have two nature/function
1- Tapetal periplasmodium or amoeboid Tapetum - here the Tapetum cell protoplasr fuse to each other and they move into locule, surrounding the developing microspore/ pollen to give nourishment
2- Glandular or secretary tapetum- the protoplast retain their position but gradually breaks and secret POLENKIT and Tryphine.
Pollen kit is a generic term applied to a number of compounds imparting stickness to the pollen grains.
It is made up of lipoidal compounds, flavonoids, carotenoids (hece give color to pollen), and Tapetal protein.
Tryphine is a mixture of hydrophilic substances derived from the Tapetal debris.
It is believed that Tryphine along with Pollen kit aids in the adhesion of the pollen to stigma and in the regulation of Pollen-stugma recognition reaction (Raghvan 1997) .
