Eutrophication of polluted water bodies is the reason behind this high abundance of plants like nostoc and oscillatoria in them. Polluted water bodies contain phosphates and nutrients like nitrogen that trigger the growth of algae hence these two sub-classes of algae grow in higher abundance in polluted water bodies.

Answer:

Polluted water bodies possess high algal growth due to the presence of nutrient. These nutrient increase the rapid growth of water plants, i.e., algae especially Nostoc and Oscillitoria, etc, and result in colonies. These colonies are generally surrounded by a gelationous sheath and furtherleads to the formation of blooms in water bodies.
