→ The phylum porifera includes plant like creatures commonly called sponges. They are called pore bearers because pores are present on their body through which water transport. The water enters through small pores called ostia and goes out through osculum.

→ They have cellular level of organization. They don't form tissues.

→ Sponges with cylindrical shape have radial symmetry and others are asymmetrical. They are Diploblastic animals.

a) Radial Symmetry :- In which body can be divided into two equal halves by any plane passing through the centre from top to bottom.
b) Diploblastic :- In which two layers namely; endoderm and ectoderm are present.

→ They don't posses digestive tract. Mouth and digestive cavity are absent.

→ They respire through their body surface by diffusion.

→ Segmentation and appendages are absent in them.

→ Ex :- Sponges, spongilla etc.
