Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born October 2nd, 1869. Gandhi’s father was chief minister of Porbandar where Gandhi was born. His mother was deeply religious and believed in Vairshnavism. This is worshiping a Hindu god called Vishnu. This belief as well as the belief of Jainism an ascetic religion. This influenced Gandhi’s self-discipline and nonviolent tenets.

Gandhi is considered the father of the Indian independence from the British rule. Gandhi spent twenty years fighting in South Africa against discrimination. He also strived to better the lives of the poorest Indian class. By using nonviolence to solve this problem as well as the discrimination against to Hindu people and gaining independence for India.

Gandhi achieved his goals publishing pamphlets. Establishing weekly journals that told about Indian opinions and ideas. Gandhi established law offices in Bombay India and Johannesburg South Africa, to help his people. Gandhi mainly accomplished his goals by using his opinions in words or writing.  

Gandhi’s philosophy reflects Indian and Western traditions by Gandhi embracing the western ideas of Democracy and Nationalism. Gandhi rejected the inequalities of the Castle System and fought hard to end harsh treatment against untouchables. Gandhi embraced Hindu traditions and he preached the ancient doctrine of Ahimsa or nonviolence. By using the power of love, is how Gandhi fought most of his battles. The Christian teaching of love is the base of Gandhi’s philosophy.  

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was shot and killed January 30th, 1948 by a Hindu extremist. After, Gandhi’s death India went into a state of great depression. Gandhi was considered their hero that had a great influence on their way of life. After, World War II Britain agreed to give India their independence. All of Gandhi’s work had paid off.

In conclusion Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi had worked hard to gain independence for India. Gandhi had to sacrifice a lot to stand up for what he believed in. Even if his attempts later took a toll on his life. Gandhi is a roe model to everyone. His story shows that if you persevere and fight for your right you will soon receive what you are reaching toward.
