One Day's work of Pradip (P) and Shounik (S) together, = 1/P + 1/S = 1 / 12. ---------- (i)

When Pradip works with thrice his efficiency and Shounik works with 1 / 4 his efficiency Then, 3/P + 1 / 4S = 1 / 16 ------------------(ii)

On solving equations (i) and (ii), first equate and then subtract we get
( 1 / 4P - 3 / P) = (1 / 48 - 1 / 16)
(1 - 12) / 4P = (1 - 3) / 48
- 11 / 4P = - 2 / 48
Cross multiply
8P = 48 x 11
P = 6 x 11
= 66 days.
Therefore, pradip alone has taken 66 days to complete the work.
