Given : -

Pramod is 25kg heavier than his wife Pranita. After a dieting course, Pramod loses 20kg and Pranita loses 15kg and their total weight is 140kg.

Required to find : -

  • Original weight

Solution : -

Statement - 1

Pramod is 25kg heavier than his wife Pranita.

Statement - 2

After a dieting course, Pramod loses 20kg and Pranita loses 15kg and their total weight is 140kg.

We need to find the original weight ?

So,

Let's consider the 1st statement !

Pramod is 25kg heavier than his wife Pranita.

Here,

Let the weight of Pranita be x .

Pramod is 25 kgs heaver . So, let the weight of Pramod be x + 25 .

However,

Now,

Let's consider the 2nd statement ;

After a dieting course, Pramod loses 20kg and Pranita loses 15kg and their total weight is 140kg.

From this we can write that ;

Weight of Pramod after diet is ;

➜ x + 25 - 20

➜ x + 5 kgs

Weight of Pranita after diet is ;

➜ x - 15 kgs

According to problem ;

Sum of the weights of Pramod & Pranita after diet = 140 kgs

➜ x + 5 + x - 15 = 140

➜ 2x - 10 = 140

➜ 2x = 140 + 10

➜ 2x = 150

➜ x = 150/7

➜ x = 75

Hence,

  • Value of x = 75

Therefore,

Age of Pramod = x + 25 = 75 + 25 = 100 kg

Age of Pranita = x = 75 kg

Question

What is a linear equation in 1 variable ?

Answer

A linear equation in 1 variable is an equation in which it only consists of 1 variable .

Solving these equations is easy .

Example :

2x + 3 = 0

x - 5 = 2

3x + 6 - 7 = 0

These all are considered to be as linear equation in 1 variable .

Question

What is linear equation in 2 variables ?

Answer

Linear equation is an equation which consists of 2 variables in it .

These equations are bit tough to solve .

Example : -

2x + 3y = 2

3x - y = 9

These are some Equations in 2 variables .

The highest degree of a linear equation is 1 .

If the highest degree of a equation is 2 then it is named as Quadratic Equation .

If the highest degree of an equation is 3 then it is named as Cubic Equation .

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

  • parmod is 25 kg heavier than his wife.

Let the weigth of pranitabe 'x'

then, weigh of parmod =( x + 25)kg

After the dieting course,

⇒pramod loses 20 kg

So, promode's age = (x + 25) - 20

= x + 25 - 20

= x + 5

⇒pranita loses 15kg

So, pranita's age = x - 15

Given that their total weight is 140 kg

So, (x + 5) + (x - 15) = 140

x + 5 + x - 15 = 140

2x - 10 = 140

2x = 150

x = \sf\frac{150}{2}

x = 75

Therefore, Pranita's original weigh is 75 kg

Pramod's age = 25 kg more than pranita

= 75 + 25

= 100 kg
